Essay Contest for Students, Graduate Students, and Young Researchers

Do you have great ideas for Ukraine’s economic growth? Are you interested in economics, free enterprise, and the concept of a minimal state? Would you like to develop your analytical skills and demonstrate academic thinking?
Every participant who meets the requirements will receive a certificate from the organizers, confirming their research and civic engagement, intellect, and passionate drive.
Application deadline: October 31, 2025.
Participant age: up to 35 years old.
COMPETITION PRIZES: Cash awards for the winners, diplomas for participants, publication of the best essays on the organizers’ websites, opportunities for further collaboration, and additional prizes and distinctions from the competition partners.

  1. Freedom and responsibility: Is Ukrainian society ready for a smaller state role?
  2. Personal freedoms under martial law: Where is the line between security and liberty?
  3. How liberal ideas can help overcome corruption in Ukraine.
  4. The state or the citizens: who drives reconstruction and economic growth? 5. Free enterprise as the path to Ukraine’s postwar recovery.
  5. Economic freedoms as the foundation of resilience in times of crisis.
  6. Liberal values as the basis of a new political culture in Ukraine.

TIMELINE

October 1–31, 2025, with the award ceremony to take place by November 30, 2025.

Economic Security Index 2025 Presentation

The presentation of the Economic Security Index 2025 by ILI will demonstrate the dynamics of changes in Ukraine’s and other countries' national economic security systems over the past year, considering existing external and internal risks and threats.
This year’s Index will include conclusions and recommendations not only for the Government of Ukraine, but also for several other countries included in the analysis. The Index’s findings can be used to improve the state of national economic security in the countries assessed. The relevance of ILI’s Economic Security Index is rapidly increasing in light of growing security risks in Europe and worldwide.

This year, for the first time, we are presenting the Social Welfare Index, which shows how much time a person needs to work to buy a set of 40 goods and services. Welfare is determined by the balance of time and resources that, on the one hand, need to be spent on material support for life, and on the other hand, remain with a person for family, recreation, travel, hobbies and self-realization outside of work.
